Each October, which is Disabilities Awareness Month, the Mayors of Spartanburg County Committee for People with Disabilities holds a Walk and Roll advocacy event and followed by a presentation and dance. This year, the walk was on Wednesday, October 16th. Over 200 students, teachers and community leaders started the walk at Morgan Square in downtown Spartanburg led by Mayor Jerome Rice and ended at Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium. Students were then bused to Spartanburg High School where a presentation with speakers was held. The highlight each year for the students is the dance with a DJ. This walk is so important to highlight the fact that individuals with disabilities have many abilities that they can bring to a job if they are given the chance. If you are an employer, please consider hiring individuals of all abilities for positions within your organization.
